Protection and Peacebuilding
- Protection and Peacebuilding in Afghanistan
Afghanistan is a war-stricken country, and the outcomes of the war has destroyed the internal peacebuilding system of the country. The war has brought misery, crimes, and mistrust and has promoted the local enmities of Afghan tribes. But on the other hand, Afghanistan has a rich culture and an informal but strong peacebuilding system. This Alternative Dispute Resolution system is called jirga, which is formed, supervised and materialized by community influential. Besides, jirga, engagement of youth, media and civil society organizations can also play a vital role to combat enmities and war. Supporting good governance, rule of law, anti-corruption, credible and transparent elections, and a vibrant civil society and independent media can change the uncertain situation and contribute to creating an enabling environment in Afghanistan. Promoting peace and reconciliation, as well as women’s civic and political engagement, are essential to the success of these efforts.
An effort to strengthen peacebuilding, initiate conflict resolution, and promote good Governance in Afghanistan to raise and amplify the voices of Afghans and build grassroots-level peacebuilding through dialogue, nonviolence, protection and peace messaging are the sustainable solutions to these problems. The local leaders would need to be encouraged, and civil society and the media would need to be involved in actively forging sustainable peace.
The proposed project will focus on strengthening and building the knowledge of key stakeholders to involve them in protection and peacebuilding activities for Alternative Dispute Resolution.
